Dorothy J. Mills, 79, of Keokuk, died at early Sunday morning, November 15, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. God took her home after a courageous battle against breast cancer.

She was born on July 30th, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Ada King Miller. She married William W. Mills on August 25, 1945. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1972. To his union were born 6 children. She attended Keokuk schools and graduated from Southeastern Community College with an Associate Degree.

She is survived by a son, William (Julie Ann) Mills of Keokuk; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Walker of Hamilton, Illinois and Barb (Bill) Gassaway of Keokuk; a daughter-in-law, Mary Mills of Keokuk; twelve grandchildren, Troy Roberts of California, Whitey (Angela) Walker of Burlington, Iowa, Brian "B.J." Walker of Hamilton, Illinois, Cory (Jean) Droe of Atlanta, Illinois, Will Mills of Kemah, Texas, Ben (Natalie) Mills of Keokuk, Iowa, Tarabeth (Chris) Peabody of Hamilton, Illinois, Tyler Mills of Keokuk, Ryan Mills of Macomb, Illinois, Lisa Niles of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Robin and Nick Gassaway, both of Keokuk, Iowa. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren, Nick and Tim Roberts, Stephanie and Evan Walker, Gavin Walker, Haley and Erin Beeler, Taylor Droe, Grant Niles, and Roland Bouchard. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including a special niece Barb Roberts of Hemet, California; and also by very special friends, Annie Mitchell, Aileen Jinkens and Betty Pfeiferling; and countless other friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Cain; two daughters, Leitha Walker and Debbie Mills; and one son, Randy Mills.

She was devoted to her family and was a very sweet and caring lady who always put the needs and cares of others above her own. She will be lovingly remembered by many whose lives she touched.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, having served as Elder and Sunday School Teacher. She was active with adventure club at the church and served many hours in the nursery, rocking and nurturing babies. Children brought her much joy. She enjoyed dancing, playing pool and cards, family gatherings, and bragging on her grandchildren. She lived with great faith. Her family, friends, and church were her all and she always insisted on everyone calling her Grandma.

Funeral service were Thursday, November 19, 2009, at United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk with Pastor Robert Lane officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church for Adventure Club Youth Program.
