Jody was born Sarah Joanne Landis on October 14, 1927. She grew up on a farm near Weldon, Iowa and moved to Weldon in 1944 when her parents bought Lockwood's' General Store. After graduation from High School she attended Simpson College and taught school for a year in Weldon. She had the challenge of teaching her brother, Skip, in the 4th grade along with other students who remained lifelong friends. Jody then taught school for two years near Albion, Iowa.

Bob and Jody were married on June 1, 1947 at Weldon Methodist Church. During their marriage they lived in Marshalltown and at Holiday Lake, near Brooklyn, Iowa. During those years at Holiday Lake, Scott Cutting became a part of their family. Then she was employed in numerous positions, the last being at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown before retiring in 1986. Jody was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church. She had a deep spiritual relationship with God and her church and love for others which were the center of Jody's life. Jody and Bob spent countless hours volunteering at the Salvation Army Headquarters, Veterans' Home, House of Compassion, church and caring for elderly family and friends. She loved life and enjoyed writing stories and poems, golfing, children, cooking, dogs and playing jokes on friends.

Jody is survived by son Scott Cutting (Jessica) Earlham, Iowa, grandchildren Ashlynne & Brooklyn, daughter in her heart, Lynn Smool and husband Glen, State Center, sisters Jerry Cory of Akron Ohio, Nancy Hendrickson, Grinnell, Iowa, brother Skip Landis (Mary Lou) Westfield, MA, a very thoughtful and caring brother-in-law Gene Strohm, special friends Jean Christians and husband Stu of Marshalltown, loving neighbors and friends Frank and Dorothy Borton, several nieces and nephews, friends and the loving staff and family at Glenwood Place. Memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) may be given/mailed to Glenwood Place, 2907 South 6th St., Marshalltown, IA. It was Jody's' desire to leave a gift to the "new" addition at Glenwood Place where she had been so happy and felt at home. A bench in Memory of Bob and Jody Strohm will be located in a part of the garden when the project is completed. It will be called "Jody's Place." With her zest for life and concern for others, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2011. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff and her many friends at Glenwood Place who filled her last years with love and happiness, as well as fantastic care. We would also like to Thank Hospice for all of their wonderful care and guidance.
