Mary Hasselbring
September 27, 1937 - January 11, 2018

Mary W. (Decker) Hasselbring, 80, passed away from this life at the Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from an extended illness.

Mary was born September 27, 1937 in Streator, Illinois the daughter of William and Reeva (Gourley) Decker. She had three children with her former husband Harlan Hasselbring of St. Augustine, Florida. Surviving are Bonnie (Ronald) Sanders of Fayetteville, NC; Colleen (David) Houghton and Dale (Krista) Hasselbring both of Sarasota, Florida. There are 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Three sisters survive as well: D. Darlene Budde of Flanagan, Illinois; Edith (Donald) Dady of Streator; and Beverly Riegert of Bark River, Wisconsin.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents Harm & Hannah Decker; maternal grandparents Earl & Mabel Gourley; son-in law Ronald Sanders and dear friend Jim White.

Her elementary schooling was obtained in a variety of one-room schools in the Streator area. Her secondary education was received at Streator High School and Woodland High School. She was a member of the first graduating class of Woodland High School in 1955.

For many years Mary was employed in the business office of Prairie Farms Dairy of Streator, before moving to Florida. Sarasota has been her home for over 55 years. Although she has been employed with a variety of businesses in Sarasota, her longest was with her private business Mary's Security & Cleaning Service. She provided valued, secure services for homes on the islands as well as the mainland in all directions from Sarasota over thirty plus years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be provided at a later date this spring. Following the services burial will be in the Long Point Cemetery. Mary was baptized at the Ancona Christian Church and later years followed the Lutheran faith with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
