Patrick R. Hunter

Patrick R. Hunter, of Antigo, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at his home with his family in the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 79 years old. Born November 23, 1928 in Wausau, WI to the late Jacob and Clara (Proft) Hunter, Sr. He married Kathryn Katie Kondzela on June 12, 1954 at St. John Catholic Church. She survives.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, where he ushered for many years. He was a member and treasurer of the Federal, State, County, and City Employees Credit Union of Langlade County. A 1947 graduate of Antigo High School, he served in the Untied States Army from October 25, 1950 until October 16, 1952 attaining the rank of Staff Sgt.
He served in Germany as a medic. Following military service he was employed at Hunters Feed Store, Antigo Candy company and for 18 years on the Antigo Fire Department. He was a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier for many years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed walking, softball, and playing with the Mattoon Green Wave Basketball Team. He also enjoyed coaching flag football and following the activities of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Katie 3 daughters, Jean (Dick) Artz ,Antigo, Joan (Mick) Heberlein Cross Plains , Barbara (Pete) Miller Merrill; 2 sons, Patrick (Cheryl) Hunter Antigo, Michael (Sandra) Hunter Oshkosh; 10 grandchildren, Shelly ( Gregg) Langbehn, Jenny and Maria Artz, Jessi (Stan) Holdaway, Mandi ( Dan) Witman, Dylan Hunter, Christopher, Bradley, Benjamin and Kelly Hunter; 4 Great grandchildren Payton, Gavin, Nathan and Hannah; 2 brothers, James (Mary) Hunter Germantown, Frank (Kaarin) Hunter Davenport, Iowa; half sister, Hazel Bittinger Penn.; 3 sisters in law, Mary Hunter, Lorraine Hunter, Loraine Hunter all of Antigo. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Marian Royce, two brothers in law Jack (Beth) Kondzela and Jim (Darlene) Kondzela. Nieces, nephews, and many other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by Parents, 1 Brother, Bill Hunter, 6 half brothers, Virgil, Charlie, Tom, Jake, Alonzo and John Hunter. 2 half sisters, Blanch Hunter and Velma Williams. 1 Grandchild, Daniel Hunter. Two brothers in law Lawrence Kondzela and Dearl Royce. One sister in law Bernice Kondzela Services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 1pm at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo with Rev. Charles Hoffmann, officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21 at Bradley Funeral Home from 2:30 to 7pm with a parish wake service at 4pm and Monday 11:30 to 12:30pm.
