James O'Neil
October 23, 1923 - November 7, 2008

James G. O'Neil, of White Lake, WI, died Friday, November 7, 2008 in Wausau in the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice. He was 85years old He was born October 23, 1923 in Kenosha the son of the late Charles and Clara (Zahn) O'Neil.
He married Betty Place on May 24, 1947 in Milwaukee. She survives.
As a child he moved to Pocahontas, Ark. from Kenosha. In Chicago he attended a trade school prior to entering the United States Marine Corps where he served in the South Pacific with the V.M.F. III 4th Marine Air Wing during WWll . He attained the rank of corporal.
After military service, he lived in Milwaukee and worked in the construction industry. Following his marriage, he moved to White Lake where he was employed at Yawkee Bissell Hardwood Flooring Company for three years. He returned to Milwaukee and worked as a construction mason. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he lived in Franklin and Muskego. While living in Muskego, he spent 10 years as a Scoutmaster for Mill Valley Troop 18. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the honor of the Scouter's Key. He was also a member of the masons union Local # 599 in Milwaukee.
For many years he spent weekends with his family in White Lake. For 35 years, he was associated with planning the White Lake 4th of July parade with Bill Gamble.
He was an avid hunter, hunting duck and deer as well as fly fishing. He loved animals and his many hunting dogs he had over the years especially Jim, Swampy, and Duchess who were his favorites but we cannot forget Heidi and Suzie.

He was a member and elder of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, White Lake, the Timberwolves Detachment of The Marine Corps League, and Past Commander and life member of Anderson-Sather American Legion Post #524, White Lake. . He received the Legionnaire of the Year Award in 2004.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Michael (MaryBeth) O'Neil Genesee Depot; a daughter, Michele (Mark) Fish Edgerton; three grandchildren, Alicia, Margaret, Jamie; four great-grandchildren, Chrystal, Drew, Tia, Tyler; and a brother, William O'Neil, FL.

He was preceded in death by parents, brother Kenneth O'Neil and a sister Shirley Tausher.

Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 11:30 PM with Rev. Steven Vaudt officiating.

Interment will follow in the Langlade Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Anderson-Sather American Legion Post #524.

Visitation will be Monday, November 10 at Bradley Funeral Home from 3:30 pm to 7pm with an American Legion Honor Guard from 6pm to 7pm and Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 at church .
