Gladys Benes, of Post Lake, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Langlade Hospital. She was 87 years old. Born April 4, 1921 in Omaha,Neb. She married the late Joseph J. Benes on January 25, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI.

Following marriage they lived in Milwaukee where she was employed by Eagle Knit, Johnson Cookie Company, and Dunk'n Donuts where she was manager of the store. In 1978 they moved to Post Lake and she was employed in Antigo at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and Baker Canning Company. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, polka dancing, traveling in their motor home, and going to the casino. She was a active member of the Central Wisconsin Polka Club and also was a member the Polka Lovers of America where she and Joe were King and Queen for two years.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Sandra Opall Rhinelander, Mary (David) Dinnauer Milwaukee; a brother Paul Steele Omaha, Neb, 3 grandchildren, Kevin Benes, Megan Opall,and Ryan Opall all of Rhinelander; great-grandchild, Riley Benes Rhinelander, 3 Sisters-in-law, Margaret (Chester) Sinkler and Frances Benes both of Antigo, Helen Zelmer Rhinelander, and a brother-in-law, Stanley (Lucille) Benes Bryant, WI;

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 10:30 am at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Omer Kelley, officiating. Burial will take place in Bohemian National Cemetery, Neva, Visitation will be Saturday, December 6 at Bradley Funeral Home from 9:00 am to time of services.
