Thelma Moss
July 5, 1907 - January 17, 2009

Thelma Mae Moss, of Antigo, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Evergreen Terrace. She was 101 years old. Born July 5, 1907 in Town of Norwood to the late Ernest and Lucy (Tobey) Moss.

She is a member of Faith United Church of Christ Fellowship of Faith United Church of Christ, Langlade County Historical Society, and International Crane Foundation of Baraboo.
She was a charter member and first president of Langlade County Area Retired Educators Association of which the first meeting was held at her home. On her 100 birthday, she was awarded a centennial pin from the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association.
She graduated from Antigo High School in 1925, Langlade County Normal School in 1926 and Superior State Teachers College with a degree in education. She taught for 47 years, in rural schools and state graded schools in Langlade County, Rhinelander city schools, and in Wauwatosa primary grades at Roosevelt and Madison Grade Schools. She also taught in Japan for a year for the U. S. Military.
In 1972 she retired to Antigo and became the curator of the Langlade County Historical Museum. Her hobbies include birding and gardening.

Survivors include her, seven nieces, Lois Goeman, Janet Hickman, Carole Donohue, Mary (John) Armantrout, Karen McDougal, LuAnn (JR) McGhee, and Mary Skidmore; three nephews, Larry (Lu) Moss, Bill Caton, Dick Caton; two nieces-in-law, Lois Moss and Beth Moss; a cousin, Ken ( Jeanette) Tobey; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, two sisters Inez Caton and Marion Osborne, two brothers Harold and Ronald Moss, and two nephews Dick and Donald Moss.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 11am at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Audrey Alexander, officiating. Burial will take place in Antigo Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 22 from 9 to 11 am at the funeral home.
