Peter J. Steenis, of the Town of Hutchins, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 69 years old
He was born August 28, 1939 in Appleton the son of Wilbur and Lillian (Guckenberg) Steenis.
He married Judith Lieble Elsholtz on Aug 20, 1983 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mattoon She survives
He graduated from St. Lawrence Seminary High School at Mt. Calvary. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Division, 127th InfantryCombat Support Company. He was called to Fort Lewis, Washington, during the Berlin Crisis. In Appleton he was a leader of the Pioneer Boys Group, a part of his parish. He was a member of St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church, Phlox and the John Owen American Legion Post #287. He was employed at Appleton Battery & Ignition for a few years and Miller Electric for 48 years as a photographer. He was a member of the Miller Electric 25 Year Club. In addition to photography, he enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and shooting his pistol. He was a handyman and could fix anything. He especially enjoyed riding his John Deere tractor with a pocket full of New York mints.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Tim Elsholtz, Antigo, Jeff Steenis, Madison, five daughters, Theresa (Richard) Fischer, Mattoon, Mary (Ed) Artz, Antigo, Sherry (Randy) Wilhelm, Eland, Annie (Mike) DeBroux, Mattoon, Julie Steenis, Appleton, two brothers, Fred (Char) Steenis, Neenah, Robert (Barb) Steenis, Kaukauna, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his aunt Evie Guckenberg, Neenah and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle Peter Guckenberg.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Churh, Phlox on Wednesday February 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Kiefer and Deacon Thomas Hartman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery, Mattoon, with the Mattoon American Legion conducting Military Honors.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at Bradley Funral Home with a parish wake service at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 am at church .
