Funeral services for Mrs. Lola Holt Gunnels, age 94, of Allons will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 from the Chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston with Bro. Allen Judd, Bro. John Whitson, Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Burial will be in Overton County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 9 p.m.Mrs. Gunnels died May 19, 2009 at her home. She was born April 7, 1915 in Overton County to the late Rocky Lee and Sarah Jane Johnson Holt. She was a school teacher for 35 years in Overton County, Clarksville High School and APSU, then back to Overton County where she taught senior English until retirement in 1980 after 35 years. She was a member of Allons Church of Christ. She attended TTU and received a MA Degree in English at APSU in 1958. She was very active in professional organizations having been president of Eta Rho chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at APSU. She belonged to all the educational organizations during her professional career and into retirement: OCEA, MTEA, TEA, and NEA. After retirement she spent her time gardening crafting, and with her family.She is survived by a daughter, Janet Gunnels Daley of Allons; granddaughter, Saralee Cross husband, Butch of Allons; great-grandchildren, Ciara ( Andy) Cobb, Cody ( Jade) Cross, Cory Cross, Colton Cross; great-great-grandchildren, Ciana Cobb, Anica Cobb, Cambrie Cross; a brother, Ralph Holt of Lewisburg, TN; and 2 sisters, Lydia Holt Brown of Florida and Dean Brown of Murfreesboro, TN.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: James C. Gunnels, brothers: Lonnie Holt, Eudell Holt, and Loren Holt, and 1 sister: Linnie Holt.Active pallbearers to serve are Andy Cobb, Cody Cross, Cory Cross, Colton Cross. Honorary pallbearers include the Elders Deacons of Allons Church of Christ; nephews, Richard Brown, Joe Holt, Gerald Nolen, Wayne Holt, Michael Holt, Jeffrey Holt, James Edward Gunnels, David Gunnels; and cousins, Billy Joe Holt, Billy Joe Gunnels, R. L. Ogletree.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Allons Church of Christ Building Fund.
