James Svaton
October 4, 1923 - June 11, 2009

James Svaton, of Antigo, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Langlade Hospital. He was 85 years old. He was born on October 4, 1923 in Antigo to Michael and Anne (Martiney) Svaton. He married Mary Ann Hart on April 15, 1961 in Antigo. She survives.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School and served in the United States Army during WWII seeing action in Italy. After service he worked for his father at the Svaton Tailor Shop before starting a long carreer with the Langlade County Sherrifs Department. He retired in 1978.

Survivors including his wife are a daughter, Tressa Svaton, Antigo, a son, James Svaton and a grandson Brendan Svaton, both of Darlington, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by by his parents, four sisters Mary (Lyle) Ahlers, Anne (Herbert) Knott, Sylvia (Bernard) Stark, Blanche (Charles) Nelson and a brother in infancy.

Services will be held on Monday, at 10:00 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the funeal home. Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites at the funeral home following services on Monday.
