Carl J. Kakes
October 18, 1937 - June 23, 2009

Carl J. Kakes, of the Town of Antigo, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at his home in the care of his loving family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 71 years old.

He was born October 18, 1937 in the Town of Neva, the son of the late Fred and Emma (Barta) Kakes.
He married Helen Packard on Oct 19, 1957 at United Methodist Church. She survives. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church.
He was born on the family farm on Kakes Road in Bryant. He attended Spring Brook Grade School and graduated from Antigo High School in 1955. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard Antigo Unit. He began his career as a mechanic with Reed-Johnson Chevrolet and was employed by the Bryant Garage which later became Parsons of Antigo for 22 years. He worked for Antigo Co-op Oil which later became Rew Motors of Antigo from which he retired. In his retirement he continued to work from sun up to sun down. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Green Bay Packers and Milwuakee Brewers, Antigo sporting events, gardening, his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, and two sons, Carl (Connie) Kakes, Antigo and Hank (Nancy) Kakes, Bryant, a son-in-law Sheldon Damos, Antigo, two sisters, Beatrice Devore, Antigo and Audrey Heinzen, Neva, a brother, Donald (Mavis) Kakes, Bryant, a sister in law, Genevieve Kakes, Antigo, nine grandchildren, Erin (Dan), Katie, Sam, Shelley, Tiffany, Heather, Paul, Evan, and Cody, three great-grandchildren, Philip, Ava, and Brieanne, and his faithful dog Tanner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Cindy Damos, a grandson, Sean Damos, a granddaughter, Carrie Damos, a brother, Richard Kakes and two brothers in law, Clinton Heinzen and Maurice Devore.

Services will be held at United Methodist Church, Antigo, June 26, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Charles Strong officiating.

Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Antigo.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Bradley Funeral Home from 3:30 to 8 p.m. and at the church Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. .
