Lorraine Bier
October 17, 1910 - July 10, 2009

Lorraine Bier, a longtime Madison resident, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Eastview Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Antigo. She was 98 years old. She was born on October 17, 1910 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Edward and Mattie (Schwantes) Hawley. She married Wallace Bier on Aug. 11, 1941 in Madison. He preceded her in death in 1998.

She graduated from Antigo High School in 1930, then from beautician school in Milwaukee. Mrs. Bier worked for many years as a beautician in Madison's finest salons. Due to the early death of her parents, she became the matriarch of the family and was instrumental in raising her siblings. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She returned to Antigo in 2002 and was a resident at Evergreen Terrace.

Survivors include a half sister, Shirley (Fick) Snopl, Antigo, a half brother, Myron (Mary) Fick, South Milwaukee, six nieces, one nephew, cousins and many dear friends including Lois Fellows.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brother Tom (Mildred) Hawley, a half sister Jeanette (Fick) Dishaw-Zakrzewski, a sister in infancy, four brothers-in-law Edward Snopl, Lawrence Dishaw, Ernie Zakrzewski and John Bier, two sisters-in-law Anna and Augusta Bier.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery in Appleton.
