Genevieve Spurgeon
February 19, 1922 - July 23, 2009

Genevieve Spurgeon, longtime Antigo resident died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg. She was 87 years old. She was born on February 19, 1922 in Laona, to Edwin and Edith (Knuth) Snow. She married Bernie Spurgeon on January 4, 1943 in Michigan. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1996.

When Mrs. Spurgeon was 14 months old her mother died and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle Richard and Ida (Knuth) Thomas. Following marriage she moved to Milwaukee returning to Antigo in 1949. She worked for Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and Electronics Radio and T.V. She raised Arabian horses, was a member of Triple R Riding Club, and the Leland-Tollefson Veterans of Forgien Wars Auxillary in Antigo. She enjoyed playing the accordian and organ and showing her Arabian Horses.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Beverly) Spurgeon, Antigo, John (Mary) Spurgeon, Deerbrook, 7 Grandchildren Jerry (Connie), Jim and Tracy Spurgeon, Kim (Paul) Bissonette, Laurie (Doug) Muench, Oriana (fiancee Chas) and Tyler Spurgeon, eight great grandchildren Kristi, Matt, Bryce, Niki, Ashley, Melissa, Shane and Jacob, four great great grandchildren Matthew, Lukas, Alyssa and Holden.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, three brothers, Raymond Snow, Richard Snow, and William Thomas, three sisters, Irene Stickler, Edith Mason and Thelma Wagner.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Kate Kraft officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Homme Home in Wittenberg.
