Merlyn Butch Wield
November 27, 1944 - October 10, 2009

Merlyn Butch Wield, of Antigo, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a heart attack. He was 64 years old. He was born on November 27, 1944 in Antigo to Rudy and Evelyn (Fink) Wield. He married Kathryn Berner Becker on Aug 27, 1999 at the Faith United Church of Christ in Antigo. She Survives.

He graduated from Antigo High School with the Class of 1962, served in the United States Air Force for 8 years during the Vietnam War, and returned to Antigo following military service. He was employed as a salesman for Schleise Wholesale Foods prior to his employment at Marathon Electric in Wausau. He worked at the Vulcan, Copps, Festival Foods and returned to Copps as assistant manager. He currently was employed at Wal-Mart in the food department. He enjoyed music and bowling, camping, fishing, and cookouts with his family. He continued the family tradition of playing in bands. He played the sax and clarinet as a member of the Antigo High School Band, the United States Air Force Band, the Impalas, Ravens, and the Swingmen with his father.

Survivors include his wife, five sons, David & Danny, South Dakota, Brian Nolan, Hawkins, Tex, Chad (Samantha) Wield, Antigo, Floyd Jesmer, Antigo, six daughters, Donna Fleischman, Bowler, Tammy Wield, Bobbi Cao and Francine Tina (Tom) Mackiewicz, all of Antigo, Paula Jesmer, Boston, Mass, Brittney Becker, Shreveport, La, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and a sister, Karen Prins, Wausau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary LaShomb Wield, and a brother-in- law, Jerry Prins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:30 to 7 pm with Antigo Veterans Honor Guard from 6 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home.
