Lawrence Winchell
June 3, 1924 - June 5, 2010

Lawrence Winchell, of Elcho, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 85 years old. He was born on June 3, 1924 in Tomahawk, to Floyd and Ellen (Brown) Winchell. He married Doris Kreil on Feb. 2, 1952 in Wausau. She survives.

He was a graduate of Tomahawk High School.
He served in the United States Army 1942 - 1946 guarding the Panama Canal. He worked for the State of Wisconsin as a corrections officer at their Waupun and Green Bay facilities for 28 years. He retired June 3, 1979 and moved to Post Lake. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fix up projects around the house.

Survivors including his wife are four sons Steven (Jill) Winchell, DePere, John (Lynn) Winchell, DePere, Jeffry Winchell, Post Lake, Brian Winchell, Rhinelander; six grandchildren Dana, Lacy, Matthew, Johnathan, Breanna and Amy; two brothers John (Violet) Winchell, Hazelhurst, Walter (Linda) Winchell, Schofield, and neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Delores Harris.

Services will be held on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho with Rev. Roger Strebel officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery where the Elcho veterans will conduct military rites. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
