Bernard Bennie (Mikolajczak) Mitchell, of Elcho, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Langlade Hospital. He was 75 years old. He was born on September 13, 1934 in Elcho to Marion (McNinch) Mikolajczak of Antigo and the late Bernard Mikolajczak.

He began his 22 year military career after graduating from Elcho High School. He served in the United States Army as a Green Beret with the Fifth Special Forces Group, serving in Korea and Viet Nam. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in Viet Nam. He was also a Jump Master and a Jungle Expert. He retired July 1, 1976 with the rank of Sgt First Class and returned to the Elcho area.

Survivors including his mother are two brothers - Kenneth (Mary) Mikolajczak of Surfside Beach, SC, James (Auda) Mikolajczak of Elcho and twin sisters - Elaine (Arthur) Cegielski of Elcho, Elsie (Kenneth) Foreman of Deerbrook.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Mikolajczak.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Jack LaMar officiating. Burial will take place in Elcho Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Elcho American Legion Post. Visitation will be 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home.
