Elwyn Remington
July 24, 1914 - April 23, 2010

Elwyn John Al Remington, local philanthropist and businessman, died Friday, April 23, 2010 under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 95 years old. He was born on July 24, 1914 in Antigo, a son of the late John and Dora (Heckman) Remington.

He was a 1932 graduate of Antigo High School.
He was a member of Antigo United Methodist Church and the Antigo Masonic Lodge 231 Free and Accepted Masons of Wisconsin. He owned and operated Remington Motors Dealership in Antigo and The Birnamwood Oil Company. Throughout his life he was a success in many business endeavors. He established the Elwyn Remington Foundation which provided hundreds of scholarships, and countless donations for the benefit of his community. His generosity will long be remembered.

Survivors include his longtime partner Jeanne Lucht, Antigo, a daughter, Judy (Charles) Melzer, Antigo; a son, Jerry (Donna) Remington, Antigo; six grandchildren, Tim (Chris) Melzer, Teri Melzer, Tracy (Steve) Trettin, Tami (Lance) Doering, JP (Jenah) Remington, Nikki (Tom) Heinzen; 12 great-grandchildren, Jackie (Pete) Lenaker, Mikki (Jason) Gregory, Alysa Melzer, Max and Remington Trettin, Logan and Olivia Doering, Ryker Remington, Erika, Alex, Sydnie and Baily Heinzen; two great great grandchildren, Willa Lenaker and Rivers Gregory; and a brother, Ken Remington of Rhinelander.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Ian Trettin; two brothers, Rolland and Art Remington; and the mother of his children, Lillian Remington.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Antigo United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Strong officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home with a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Remington Foundation.
