Dr. Jeanne LaBlonde
January 21, 1918 - May 23, 2010
Dr. Jeanne LaBlonde, an Antigo native, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Willows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She was 92 years old. She was born on January 21, 1918, in Antigo, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Flanagan) LaBlonde.
She was a graduate of Antigo High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II as an affairs officer in the WAVES. Her duties took her to Washington D.C. where she worked in the Bureau of Aeronautics as a statistician.
Dr. LaBlonde completed her graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, receiving her PhD in 1966.
She held a longtime teaching position at the College of St. Teresa in Winona Minnesota, retiring in 1980. She also taught at Manitowoc, Beloit, and Wheatland, Wyoming.
During her teaching career, Dr. LaBlonde was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of key women educators. She held positions at the International and State levels as well as in her local chapter.
She was a member of the Retired Educators of Minnesota, the American Legion, and Sierra Club of Winona.
She was proud of her status as a Cojourner with the Sisters of St. Francis of Rochester, Minnesota. Volunteer work was a large part of her retirement having committed time to the Tau Center, Community Memorial Hospital and St. Anne's Hospice Center in Winona Minnesota.
Survivors include five nieces: Ruth (Mel) Laycock, New Berlin, Jeanne (Gary) Rusch, DeForest, Jeanne Madden, NY, Mary Lou (Robert) Gibson, Elkhorn, Suzanne Patterson, FL; seven nephews Mike (Patty) Joyce, Antigo, WI Fred (Lori) Joyce, Lena, WI Dave (Mary) Joyce, Houston, TX, Charles (Ann) LaBlonde, Colorado Springs, CO, Bill, John and Jim Erler, Georgia; numerous great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, and a close friend Sue Steiner, Winona, Minn.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two bothers Robert and John LaBlonde and two sisters Margaret Joyce and Marianne Erler.
The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
