Lavern J. Eckardt Sr., of Deerbrook, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Langlade Hospital. He was 87 years old. He was born on February 3, 1923 in Aniwa, WI a son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Blossom) Eckardt. He married Josephine Piasecki on June 21, 1947 in Chicago, IL. She survives.
He was a graduate of Trunkline School in Aniwa. Mr. Eckardt served in the United States Marines Corps from June 28, 1944 until August 9, 1946 having been stationed on the islands of Okinawa and Japan. He drove bus for Land O Lakes and Grey Hound. For 19 years he farmed in the town of Peck and drove school bus for Elcho School district for 27 years and Mid-Wisconsin for 5 years. He also worked for Fischers Meat Market for 12 years. He was a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377, Elcho.
Enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing cards and watching the Brewers and Packers.
In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, Judy (Earl) Schmidt, Birnamwood and Carol (Tom) Knapkavage, Deerbrook; two sons, Lavern Sonny (Linda) Eckardt Jr., Deerbrook and Michael (Iris) Eckardt, Ringle; a brother, Raymond (Beverly) Eckardt, Birnamwood; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Clarence and Melvin and an infant sister, Rose.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva. Burial will take place at a later date in Kempster Cemetery.
