Bernard Koszarek, of Antigo, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Wausau Hospital. He was 89 years old. Born on December 20, 1920 in Deerbrook he was a son of the late Michael and Theresa (Schedlbauer) Koszarek. He married Virginia Wield on August 11, 1945 at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1993.
Mr. Koszarek was a Fireman First Class in the United States Navy. He served during WWII from May 19, 1944 to January 29,1946.
He was a member of the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign War Post # 2653, Antigo. He was a welder for Wisconsin Bridge and Iron in Antigo until it closed, he then worked for Green Thumb as a caretaker for the park and recreation department. He enjoyed trout fishing, playing spitz, wood working and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail (Timothy) Tatro, Antigo; two sons, Richard (Jean) Koszarek, Antigo and Mark (Diana) Koszarek, Antigo; eleven grandchildren, Todd (Katie) Tatro, Tonya (Brian) Tatro, Brian Olson, Dana (Celina) Koszarek, Nikole Koszarek, Stefanie (Justin) Delfosse, Savannah Koszarek, Shantel Koszarek, Rayna (Jeremy) Oesterreicher, Brett (Sierra) Michelson and Andree (Curt) Brushaber; nine great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Mason, Dylan, Axel, Ashley, Jameson, Kim, Richard and Brandon; two sisters, Bernice Walker, Antigo and Marlene Simon, Mason, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Carol Koszarek, Antigo.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Koszarek; six brothers, Robert, Michael, Al, Sonny, Richard and Melvin; two sisters, Evelyn Wegner and Jeanette Koszarek.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Antigo veterans will conduct military rites following the service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
