Sylvester Silly Pesl
October 16, 1917 - November 27, 2010

Sylvester Silly Pesl, longtime Antigo resident, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was 93 years old. He was born on October 16, 1917 in Antigo, a son of James and Mary (Csuy) Pesl. He married Clara Muench on February 11, 1939 at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2006.

As a young man he worked in CCC camps in northern Wisconsin. Mr. Pesl served in the United States Navy in Asiatic theatre from Dec. 22 1943- Nov. 28, 1945. Following service he was employed at Kraft in Antigo for 38 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Leland-Tollefson Veterans of Forgein Wars Post #2653 in Antigo.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.

Survivors include a son James (Kuuipo) Pesl, Placentia, CA; two daughters Ramona (Roland) Mahnke, Reedsville, Carol (Bryan) Wolf, Antigo, nine grandchild, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four sisters Marie Bonfigt, Dorothy Crutis, Martha Magliano, Georgianna Grapenthein; nine brothers, Frank, Anton, Rudy, Martin James, Leo, Edward, George and Stephen Pesl.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace where the Antigo veterans will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be 3:30 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday at Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday and Antigo veterans will stand honor guard from 6-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
