"John, Did you and Jane live in Monroe for a brief period several years ago? If I have the wrong John and Jane, I apologize, and I offer my condolences on your loss. If I have the right John and Jane, I am so sad to hear of Jane's death. You probably don't remember me, but I had a great time playing on the same softball team with Jane for one summer or part of a summer! Seems like you were working or going to school for agriculture at the time. Again, I am so sorry to hear of Jane's death--she was a wonderful person!"
