Joseph Roy Cudmore, Sr., Senior Chief Petty Officer (Ret) USN, passed away on February 22, 2018 in Arlington, Texas.
Funeral: A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Lamar Baptist Church-Layne Hall, 1000 West Lamar Blvd, Arlington, Texas 76012. Interment: Joseph will be interred at the Dalls-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood-Arlington Chapel.

Joseph was born on December 29, 1936 in Salem, Massachusetts to Chester Cudmore and Sarah (Waldman) Cudmore. He married Shirley Gloria Tetreault Cudmore in 1955. Joseph enlisted in the US Navy Seabee's at age 18 serving our country for 20 years. In 1975, Joseph moved his family to Arlington, Texas where he began a second career teaching diesel technology at Skyline High School and then at North Lake College in Dallas. After two successful careers, he commenced a third, working 10 years for ADP as a courier
Joseph was exposed to agent orange while serving two tours in Vietnam which caused heart issues that ultimately lead to his death. His own disability instilled a passion for him to help other veterans with disabilities. Joe served as a Service Officer and Commander of the Disabled Veterans Association Chapter 157 in Arlington, Texas.
Joseph loved the Lord and has demonstrated this ever since he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1968. For decades he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Joseph was an awesome husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and most of all, helping others.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Sarah Cudmore; sister, Rose Jalbert; and brother, Thomas W. Cudmore.
Survivors: Joseph is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; sons, Joseph Cudmore Jr., Thomas Cudmore and wife, Pam, Michael Cudmore and wife, Jeanette, David Cudmore and wife, Carolee, Donald Cudmore and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Nicholas Cudmore, Amanda O'Brian, Christopher Cudmore, Jennifer Johnson, Carley Cudmore, Connor Cudmore, and Aaron Cudmore; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
