Alice Marie Morrissey passed away at the age of 102, on March 6, 2018 at Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. She was a resident of The Waterford of Ames at the time of her passing.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at 8:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2210 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50014 on Saturday March 10, 2018, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be later at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters: Thomas Joseph (Joe) Morrissey, Anna Bernadine (Morrissey) Crawford, Robert Morrissey, John Morrissey, Rita (Morrissey) Marshall, Walter Benjamin (Ben) Morrissey and her nephew Phillip Morrissey.
Alice was the matriarch and nucleus of a large and extended family and is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews. It was her mission to keep them all connected.

Alice was born September 2, 1915, the second child of Michael Joseph Morrissey and Agnes Bernadine Jordan Morrissey in Colfax township near Napier, Iowa. Alice graduated from Stanhope High School in 1933. She worked in the Ames area, then at the Glen Martin bomber plant near Omaha from 1942-1943, and thirty-four years at the Iowa Department of Transportation, until her retirement in 1981. She was an avid Iowa State University football and basketball fan. Alice was a volunteer at Mary Greeley Hospital for many years.

A founding member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in 1947, Alice was an active member of the church, and it was her strong Catholic faith that guided her life. Alice will be remembered as a strong and fiercely independent woman who made an impact everywhere she went. She was a devoted member of her church and the Ames Community. Many thanks to those who supported her and a special thanks to her Waterford and church "families" and the staff at Mary Greeley Hospital and Israel Hospice House.

"I REMEMBER ALICE MORRISSEY I met Alice for first time when I was working for the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) in Ames. She had already retired and she was visiting old friends at the IDOT. One my office mates introduced me to Alice. In my conversation with her I found out she had relatives by the name Morrissey that in the 1920s lived in the same farm house that I had grown up in! Apparently she had visited this Morrissey family near the town of Jordan a number a number of times as a young girl. She asked about the old farm house and I told her that I now owned it. I gave her an aerial photo taken in the 1940s of the farmstead. She seemed happy with that old photo. Some times when I am at my farmstead, I think about Alice as a young girl playing with the other kids of a large family that lived there and the good times they all must have had!
