In loving memory of

Gladys Mae Hinders
April 20, 1920 - April 20, 2018

Gladys Mae (Brocka) Hinders, 98, of Allison, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison.

She was born April 20, 1920, in Greene, Iowa, to Otto and Marie (Endelman) Brocka. She was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Butler Center and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Vilmar. Gladys received her education at a country school near Greene, Iowa, Coldwater No. 8 and later earned her GED in 1974. She was united in marriage to Bennie Hinders on February 23, 1940, at the St. John's parsonage in Vilmar by Rev. Wilms. Gladys enjoyed her roles as a wife and mother. She also worked in the kitchen at the Allison-Bristow schools. Gladys was an active member at Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. She was also a member of the "Over the Hill" gang in Butler County.

Gladys enjoyed crocheting, quilting and painting Bennie's woodwork projects. She also enjoyed wintering in Texas and travelling all over the U.S. The only state she didn't have a chance to visit was Hawaii. Gladys loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the many friends she had. She made it a priority to make it to all of her grandchildren's sporting events. She was always the first one to arrive even if she had to wait three hours for the event to start. Gladys looked forward to holidays and family celebrations. Each year for every holiday, she would put a one dollar bill in each grandchild's card. Gladys was the grand marshal of the parade in Allison and was the "Grandma of the town". She enjoyed her breakfast crew and spending time with "the girls".

Gladys is survived by her son Lonnie (Shirley) Hinders of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, daughter Londa Wihlm of Des Moines, sister Esther Schmidt of Allison, sister Marvel Landers of Greene, nine grandchildren Chad (Monica) Hinders, Brent (Maria) Hinders, Corey (Sarah) Hoodjer, Mandy (Justin) Burns, Kelly (Jennifer) Hoodjer, Amy (Eric) Updegraff, Lindsey Hoodjer, Bethany (Dylan) Christensen, and Megan (Cory) Ginther, and sixteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bennie Hinders, son Lowell Hinders, seven brothers Ernest, Lavern, Harry, Floyd, Melvin, Alfred, and Alvin Brocka and sister Susan Bruns.
