In loving memory of

Michael Roger Smith
November 18, 1955 - April 13, 2018

Michael R. Smith, 62, a longtime resident of Pike Place Market, passed away April 13, 2018 after an injury from an accident in his wheelchair. He was born November 18, 1955 in Nyssa, Oregon to Roger and Shirley Smith. He was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, which caused lack of oxygen to his brain and resulted in cerebral palsy. It affected his motor skills, but not his mind or his intelligence. He lived inside a body that he had very little control over and very limited movement. Despite that, he never let it stop him. He's been such an inspiration for many and has made a lasting difference in the lives of those he touched and his beloved community.

We are all saddened by his passing and miss him dearly...but he is finally free.

He was an activist, artist, thinker, helper, counselor, brother, son, friend, and inspiration to many.

He is survived by his brother Dan Smith and sisters; Brenda Sorensen, Karen Gibson, Amie McNiven and seven nieces and nephews.
