Lester G. Skoland, 76, of Barnum passed away on May 21, 2018 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
Memorial Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Austin Hill pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Lester (Les) Gerald Skoland was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 8, 1941 to Lawrence Skoland and Myrilla (Taylor) Skoland. He attended school in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Les worked for Woodruff Construction for a number of years. He was a private contractor completing skilled concrete and drywall work before retiring in 1996. Lester lived out the remainder of his life on an acreage outside of Barnum, Iowa.
Les was an independent man with a strong will to live and the ability to provide humor and smiles to those he encountered. He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo, watching movies, fishing, golfing, grilling and being outside. Les loved spending time with his son, having coffee with his friends and caring for his little dog, Friday. Les had a love for old country music, especially Johnny Cash.
Survivors include his son, Jason (Kristin) Skoland of Clemons, Iowa and sister, Bonnie Byro of Fort Dodge.
Les is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Myrilla (Taylor) Skoland; brothers, Dave and Marvin; sister, Donna Tubbs and grandparents.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
