"Hello. I?m the granddaughter of Ferne and Dick Coxson and the daughter of Jan and Bill Lynch. Jake used to be my bus driver way back in the day. I just wanted to express how very sad I am for the loss Arlene?s loved ones are feeling. I hope all the beautiful and happy memories over the years provide you all with comfort. Before my own grandparents passed away, they talked to me about what long and beautiful lives they had. The love and beauty they had in their lives still surrounds us all today, and I?m sure the very same thing can be said for Arlene. You?ll hear her in the laughter of others and see pieces of her when others smiles. Jake and Arlene both stand out so very clearly in my mind not just because Jake was my bus driver, but because of how fondly my grandparents spoke of them. Even though my grandparents are no longer here, I very much want to make sure you knew how special Arlene (and Jake) were to them because I know they would want that. My grandparents considered them the most easiest people in the world to talk to. They said hours went by like minutes and that they truly enjoyed all of their visits and conversations. ?Jake and Arlene are the kind of friends everyone should have,? is what Grandma said. Arlene Hazel Skaare Winter was born August 30, 1925, in Madison Township in Hancock County, to John and Celia (Eggum) Skaare. She grew up on a farm South of Rake attending Country school and she graduated from Rake High School in 1943. On February 27, 1949, Arlene was united in marriage to Jake Gene Winter in Buffalo Center at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 69 wonderful years together.
Arlene attended the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, was confirmed on October 22, 1939. After marriage she attended the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. She loved her involvement in many church groups and activities. She loved reading and studying the bible with her friends in Ladies Aid and Circle. Families were everything to Arlene. Almost every Sunday after church there would be a gathering of brothers and sisters for dinner and games. She also loved gardening. Canning, pickling and freezing vegetables for the winter was a family event every fall. There was always something freshly baked around the house. Her favorite pastime was playing cards. She belonged to many card parties and welcomed any opportunity to play cards with friends and neighbors. Arlene worked at the Timely Mission Nursing home for around 30 years.
Arlene is survived by her husband Jake; a son Tom (Jeanie) Winter; a daughter Cynthia (Jay) Hagen; three grandchildren, Brandi (John) Will, Melissa (Kris) Logue, Mitch (Danielle) Hagen; great-grandchildren, Brady and Melene Will, Liam and Owen Logue, Brylee and Charlette Hagen; and a step-greatgrandchild, Colton Logue. She is also survived by her siblings, Inez Liverca, Lois (Wayne) Hayes, Jerry (Sharyon) Skaare and Carol Gossman; a brother-in-law: Lloyd Gray; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, John and Celia Skaare; a son, Craig Winter; her siblings, Gladys Winter, James Skaare, and Ronnie Skaare; her brother and sister-in-laws: Lyle and Ann Patterson, John and Marion Winter, Sharon Gray, Richard and Gloria Winter, Alvin Winter and Bob Liverca; and a niece and two nephews, Cheryl Liverca, Keith Winter, and Dennis Winter.
