In loving memory of

John M. Cooley
September 20, 1930 - June 10, 2018

John Minard Cooley passed away peacefully at the age of 87 due to Alzheimer's.
He was born to Arthur and Lucy (Lanning) Cooley in Seattle. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1949. John attended PLU one year, especially enjoying singing with The Choir of the West, an octet and a quartet. He was employed at Keller Wholesale Plumbing Supply for over thirty years.
In 1962 he met his wife of 54 years, Mary Utke, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church and they were married August 30, 1963. He enjoyed intramural basketball, league bowling, and golf. Music was his avocation and the gift of his tenor voice opened many doors for him. He sang at countless weddings and memorial services, in various choirs, and fourteen years in a barbershop quartet, "The Phinney Phour". John will be remembered for his commitment to Jesus and the church, his music, his quick wit and puns.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife Mary, children Carol (Gordon) Ferguson, Dennis (Karen) Cooley, grandchildren Colin (fiancé Jannah), Bryce, Nathaniel (Kristen), Elisa, Caleb, and Hannah, great-grandchild Carmella, his brother Bob (Arlene), and many nieces and nephews.

Remembrance gifts may be given to Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church and Pacific Lutheran University.

"My condolences. I remember my parents, Elliott and Gerry Maylor, speaking well of him, and even as just a youngster attending Phinney, I thought he was nice. -Teri"
