"Debbie Huntsinger I met Dorothy in 1973, via a message on her chalk board, which hung on the side of her barn. I had recently moved to the neighborhood, and the easement to the trails went right by her mother's house and barn where she kept her horses. One day, I noticed a message that said "Would you like to ride with me?". The next time I saw her, I said yes, and our friendship began. It continued for many wonderful years. Dorothy was always game for anything, especially if it related to our horses. She rode the local trails, both high and low, went out with us on the cross country jump courses at Ft. Lewis, rode the Crest Trail with me, and anything else that sounded fun. She was also a great friend of the outdoors, whether it was wildlife art or fishing for salmon. We went to art shows and museums. She is the only other person I know who could get as excited as I was over going to the Burke Museum to see Audubon's original brass plates that he did his prints with. And the fun trips with her and Larry to fish with Max in Alaska. One day the guys had gone to town for supplies, and it was so hot we lay on the river bank in our underwear. She was always up for anything. And so talented, both with her artwork and her sewing. She made several things for me through the years, and each is like a special treasure. She had such a beautiful touch. We will all miss her. She had an extensive family of friends. Those of us who just loved being with her will recall this beautiful woman we were all fortunate enough to know. See you on the trails, Dorothy. Save me a good horse."
