In loving memory of

Legend

Legend's Tribute

Shortly after we opened Pets Remembered Cremation in the fall of 2012, we (Skip and Carol) went to a fundraiser for a local dog rescue and that is when we first met Legend of the North. For Skip it was love at first site and he told the woman who ran the rescue that he wanted to adopt Legend. She said Legend wasn't up for adoption because he had already been returned (at least once) after being adopted out and she didn't want him to go through any more trauma.

Legend was five years old and had been brought to the rescue a few months earlier after being rescued from a breeding facility in North Dakota. As a result of whatever abuse he had lived through, Legend was highly anxious and fearful of everyone. He had multiple seizures every week.

About five months after we met Legend, the rescue woman called and asked if we still wanted him. Skip said yes and within 15 minutes we were at the woman's house to bring Legend home. Boots, our ten-year-old black Lab, welcomed Legend, although the two of them mostly co-existed. Legend immediately bonded to me (Carol) and wanted nothing to do with Skip. It took months of daily walks, treats, and tummy rubs, but eventually Skip won him over.

The more comfortable Legend became, the more his personality came out. Once he let his guard down, he loved cuddling and tummy rubs. His big brown eyes had a way of looking right into your eyes, unlike any dog we've had before. As all Labs, Legend loved to eat. He also loved going for walks and smelling every twig and leaf along the way.

Legend barked at folks coming to Pets Remembered, but if you gave him a treat you became his pal. Legend also loved going to Dog Days, for overnights when we went out of town and for doggie day care when it was time for a break from home. Thanks to everyone at Dog Days (on University Ave in St Paul) for loving Legend and giving him a home away from home. He loved going there and we know it helped him work through his "issues."

You made us better people, Legend, for sharing your life with us!
