Martha Laudeman Benedict departed peacefully from this life on June 21, 2018 at the age of 99. Martha was born Martha Johanna Laudeman on May 21, 1919 in Salem, Indiana to Polly Jean (Roberts) and Walter Arthur Laudeman. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Dr. Paul F. Benedict of Vevay, Indiana. Martha moved to Elwood, Indiana at a young age where she lived until leaving for college. She graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington (1942) where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, then earned a post graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from Washington University, St. Louis (1946). Martha is survived by her brother, Dr. Samuel R. Laudeman; and by her daughters, Katherine L. Benedict, Deborah B. Eades (John), and Susan E. Sottong (Chris). She also leaves 4 beloved grandsons, Jeremy and Benjamin Eades and William (Erin Koenig) and Andrew (Christina Wildman) McConnell and 3 adored great grandchildren, Wyatt and Beau McConnell; and Elijah Eades.
Second to her family is the love Martha had for music. She played the violin through school and into her adult life. She was a strong supporter and longtime volunteer for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Athenaeum Turners Orchestra for more than 20 years. Martha also loved history and specifically enjoyed learning of and sharing the history of Indiana and Indianapolis. She and her husband supported the IU School of Medicine and were lifelong members of North United Methodist Church.
Martha inspired others with her enthusiasm for music, people and community.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
