Ann I. Thompson
May 2, 1938 - June 29, 2018

A memorial service for Ann Thompson will be held Friday, July 13, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard. Her family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church and then at a lunch in the fellowship hall of the church following the service.

Ann Idabell Thompson was born May 2, 1938, in Whittemore, the ninth of fourteen children of Mark T. and Florence (Voit) McGuire. She grew up on a farm near St. Joe and attended St. Joseph Catholic School.

Ann raised her family in Bancroft. She built the Bancroft Drive-In and then operated it for many years. On March 27, 1982, she married Richard Thompson in Las Vegas, NV. In the mid 1980's she owned and operated the Long Branch Saloon and Tony's Café in Ledyard. Ann and Richard enjoyed time together delivering Winnebagos for many years enjoying and seeing the countryside. She loved being surrounded by her family especially her grandsons. She enjoyed fishing and going to the casino especially in Las Vegas.

Ann became a resident of the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong in June, 2017. She died there, Friday, June 29, 2018, at the age of 80.

She is survived by her husband Richard of Ledyard; two children, Roberta Bergquist and her husband Mark of Spirit Lake, and Tony Berte and his wife Sue of Lakota; four grandsons, Maxwell Bergquist, Syd Bergquist, and Mason Bergquist and his wife Sam all of Spirit Lake, and Wes Bergquist of Iowa City; and four great-grandchildren, Bremer, Aiden, Ella, and Mia. She is also survived by two brothers, Michael (Deb) McGuire of Atchison, KS and Richard (Rosa Lee) McGuire of Cainsville, MO; two sisters, Mary Reit of West Des Moines and Florence (Carl) McGuire of Lamoni; and two sisters-in-law, Diane McGuire of West Des Moines, and Carol McGuire of Algona; a special sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Randy Rowan of Fairmont, MN; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William, Donald, Leonard, Mark, Patrick, Edward, David and Luke T. McGuire; a sister, Helen Bockenstedt; brothers-in-law, Fred Bockenstedt and Harold Reit; and sisters-in-law, Ruth McGuire, Verena McGuire, Cecelia McGuire, Carol A. McGuire, and Dorothy McGuire.
