Serafin was born in ParĂ¡cuaro, Guanajuato; Mexico on December 27, 1934, to Refugio & Florentina Hernandez. Serafin was a hard worker from a very early age. At the age of 14, he took his first trip to the United States to work. He joined the Mexican Army at age 17, signing up a year early. Throughout the 1960s as part of the Bracero Program, he traveled to the United States for employment in agricultural thus having him earn permanent residency in the United States. He traveled throughout the USA, from California to New York; his work ethic was staggering.

On April 2, 1974, he married Antonia Hernandez and he started his second chapter in his life. Together they raised 6 children, through his self-employment in lawn care and landscaping, he sought to support and provide for his family. His dedication allowed him to succeed in providing all his children with a University and postgraduate education. Serafin was a selfless man who would have provided his last penny to support an education for all his children and well being of the entire family. His children went on to obtain University degrees in the fields of business, computer technology, social sciences, education, counseling, and engineering.
Serafin was known as a very generous man with a great sense of humor. He had a skill for storytelling and telling jokes. Serafin was a very likable individual who made friends easily and from all over people knew him and loved him. Serafin will be greatly missed. He was a very admired and respected man atop of this family.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards McCaleb Funeral Home for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
