John Arthur Govek
June 13, 1949 - July 3, 2018

John A Govek, of Wausau, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 69 years old. He was born on June 13, 1949, in Milwaukee, a son of Frank and Margaret (Johnson) Govek. He married Jane Selner on May 12, 1973, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2010.

He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1967 and from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1971.

Mr. Govek was employed at the Farmers Home Administration prior to owning and operating a dairy farm in the town of Hewitt, Marathon County.

He served as deputy zoning administrator and town chairman for the town of Hewitt. As a devoted father and family man he coached his sons in little league and junior league baseball in Wausau. He enjoyed playing softball, hunting, fishing and had a love for animals.

He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard for six years and a longtime member of St. John Catholic Church in Antigo.

Survivors include three sons, Ryan Govek, Wausau, John Govek, Clinton, Iowa, Robert Govek, Eagle River; a grandson, John "JR" Govek; a sister, Mary (Dave) Weyton, Pensacola, Florida; a brother, William Govek, Willard.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Govek; and a brother, Frank Govek, Jr.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 10:30 AM at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday also at the funeral home.

"You have my deepest condolences in your loss of John. Death is an enemy and no matter how long we live we are never ready for it. He had many people who loved him and enjoyed his sincere heartfelt company as I have a read in these posts. Our loving Heavenly Father Jehovah will remember him as well very soon in a resurrection that is Promised in the Bible Book of Revelation in chapter 21 verses 3 and 4 these verses may bring you some comfort."
