In loving memory of

Duane "Mack" Brophy
December 28, 1934 - July 8, 2018

Duane "Mack" Brophy, age 83, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018. He was born on December 28, 1934 in Milwaukee to Duane H. and Margaret (Mack) Brophy. He dedicated 36 years of service to his country as part of the Army National Guard. Through the National Guard, he helped in establishing the "The Friend in the Sky" emergency response program where National Guard helicopter pilots flew doctors and nurses to emergency scenes on state roadways on summer holiday weekends.

Mack (N9NTB) was active in the 4 Lakes Amateur Radio Club. After retiring, he volunteered for many years at Wisconsin Emergency Management.

He was a lover of all animals but especially cats. Mack would also never turn down a good game of cards, and sheepshead was one of his favorites.

Mack is survived by his wife Fran; children Margaret Brophy, John (Mary Oliverio) Brophy, Anne (Diane Steele) Brophy; grandson Devon Durand; siblings Mary (Phil) Rebensburg, James Brophy, Barbara (Patrick) Conway, and David (Pat) Brophy; and many other relatives and dear friends.

Private services will be held. Memorials in Mack's name may be considered to Agrace HospiceCare, the Dane County Humane Society, or an Alzheimer's association of choosing.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hyland Crossing and Agrace HospiceCare for all their care and compassion for Mack during his stays.

"When I started at Wisconsin Emergency Management it took me a while to figure out Mack was a volunteer because he was here as much as the rest of us. To me, this shows what a giving person he was. He was very passionate about amateur radio and was the best at what he did and it showed. My deepest sympathies to Mack's family."

"I'm so sorry to hear about Mack! Mack was volunteering at WI Emergency Management when I started in 1997. I enjoyed working with him in the EOC. WEM was his second home! We also shared our love of animals and he would talk about his cats. He was a special person! "
