In loving memory of

Rosanne "Rose" Van Dyke
July 3, 1962 - July 10, 2018

Rosanne "Rose" Van Dyke, 56, of Dumont, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo, Iowa.

Rose was born July 3, 1962, to Wilma and Francis Uthe. In the spring of 1969, the family moved to Dumont, and operated a gas station, café, and repair shop. Rose graduated from Dumont High School in 1980, where she was active in many sports. She graduated from UNI in 1984 with a BA in mathematics teaching and a minor in coaching. Rose started teaching and coaching at Iowa Falls High School the following fall. Rose married Steven Van Dyke on July 23, 1983. To this marriage, they raised two wonderful sons - Tyler and Tanner. They lived on an acreage north of Hansell, until March of 1990 when they bought the acreage south of Dumont. She taught 34 years in Iowa Falls and helped with the family tree business.

In May of 2017, Rose was diagnosed with Metaplastic breast cancer. She fought hard through the chemo and radiation. In March 2018, only one month after finishing radiation, the cancer came back in her lungs. She was unable to teach most of the 2017-2018 school year due to side effects of the chemo.

Rose enjoyed teaching high school mathematics, spending time with family and friends, biking, fishing, and gardening. In recent years she started sewing quilts and card making.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband Steve, parents (Francis & Wilma Uthe), her in-laws (Marlene & Henry Van Dyke) and many aunts and uncles. Rose is survived by her two sons Tyler of Hansell and Tanner and fiancé, Alex of West Des Moines. She is also survived by her siblings (Janice, Jeanette, Charlene, Mark, Chris, Connie, John, Joanney, Mary and Frank), in-laws Warren & Lollie Van Dyke, Aunt Pauline and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Rose requested backpacks with school supplies for the Iowa Falls school district or food/monetary donation for the Hampton Food Pantry.

"My prayers are with you, Tyler. I thought it was great that your mom would come to our Bears baseball practices and help once in a while. It showed me how much she loved you, and how much she liked coaching that she would come help with a bunch of middle school boys."

"We admired Rose so much for her teaching skills, caring for her students and her friends, but most of all as a wife and mother. There, she was beyond the best, loving, strong and faithful. "So sorry to hear of Rose's passing away. I taught with her while I was the choral director at Iowa Falls. She was an excellent teacher and colleague. She will greatly missed. I understand the loss as Yvonne, my wife, passed away in February. There is certainly a loss when a loved one dies. "

"I'm so sorry to hear the news. Mrs. Van Dyke taught me geometry and encouraged me to join the math club, as well. I always appreciated her going with us to competitions and encouraging us, even when we didn't do as well as we'd hoped. She also encouraged us to try new things, in math and culture. I'm pretty sure my first experience with Indian food was at her suggestion when we were in Iowa City for a competition. I'll be praying for peace for you all as you grieve and cope with her loss. - Josh Super (Iowa Falls, Class of 2002)"
