In loving memory of

Roger Andrew Anderson
November 18, 1936 - July 16, 2018

Roger A. Anderson, 81, of Delmar, Iowa, a follower of Christ, was received into glory by his Savior on July 16, 2018 at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Those left to honor Roger's memory include: his wife of 60 years, Elaine Anderson of Delmar, IA and his children Dave Anderson of Maquoketa, IA, Laurie (Jon) Thomsen of Oxford Junction, IA, Deb (Ken) Carr of Estero, FL, Steve (Laura) Anderson of Delmar and Jim (Terri) Anderson of Maquoketa. Also he will be lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a list of friends too long to name.

Roger Andrew Anderson was born on November 18, 1936 in Preston, Iowa, to Andy Andrew and Bernice (Koch) Anderson. After high school graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a carpenter. He married Elaine Calkins and they had five children. Roger had worked at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy for more than 28 years until retirement. In retirement, he worked for the Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt in the Maintenance Department for over ten years.

Roger was passionate about the outdoors and was an avid hunter and trapper, much to the dismay of the local raccoons, muskrats and squirrels. As a beloved father, he passed on his respect for nature to his children.

In the last year of his life, Roger became a follower of Christ. He enjoyed attending First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and reading his Bible. We honor the man who honored God with his heart until he heard the call to heaven.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28 at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 - 11am at the church. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at the Miles, Iowa cemetery. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Roger A. Anderson memorial fund has been established.

Online condolences may be left at www.carsonandson.com.

"We are so very sorry for your loss. Roger was a wonderful man inside and out. Paul and i both have wonderful memories of him throughout our childhood. Paul was always in the garage checking out Rogers catch for the day. Paul learned a lot about trapping and hunting from Roger. I personally loved all of the stay overs between us girls. Always remember Roger lounging on the couch and always smiling, no matter the racket we were making. Those beautiful blue eyes always had a twinkle in them. Rest in peace Roger. God Bless you all."

"Uncle Roger was an amazing man. Although he was not a large man in stature, to his nieces and nephews he was bigger than life itself. We were continually amazed by his hunting and trapping skills and loved it when he stopped in to visit. He was a devoted son, brother, husband and father. He will be missed by many. Rest In Peace Uncle Roger. Andrea Byrne-Meyer daughter of Dolores Anderson Byrne and Paul Byrne. "
