In loving memory of

Maria de Jesus Valero
February 13, 1954 - July 27, 2018

WESLACO - Maria de Jesus Valero (Silva), 64, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, in Wisconsin. She was born on February 13, 1954, to Miguel Silva and Maria de los Santos Silva in Edcouch, Texas. Maria grew up in Edcouch with her two sisters. She learned at an early age how to work hard. She worked in the fields with her family, which is where she met her future husband, Jesus Manuel Valero. They were married on March 26th, 1983 and have been inseparable ever since.

Maria and Jesus raised three children in Weslaco, spending summers working in the fields with her family, teaching them that same priceless work ethic. Maria will always be remembered as a woman of great character and strength. She was very humble and always put others needs before her own. She never complained, even when she was sick. She cared deeply for her grandchildren and they could always count on her to play child games. Maria woke up before the rest of the family to make sure they were fed. She was known by many for her fresh homemade, delicious tortillas. Maria enjoyed laughter and watching comedians on youtube and facebook. She enjoyed playing chalupa, Loteria and some bingo. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with family and friends.

Above all, Maria was very strong in her Catholic faith. She prayed the rosary every night. She was always the first to volunteer at church and was very active in her church. She prayed rosaries for funerals, organized posadas, and cared for the needy.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Maria Silva.

She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Jesus, children, Patricia Martini (Hugo) of Weslaco, San Juanita Valero (Ramiro Escandon Jr.) of Mercedes, and Jesus Valero (Destiny Zimmerman) of Wisconsin, grandchildren, Ramiro Escandon III, Natalie Mai Escandon, April Escandon, Maria de la Luz Escando, and Estrella Mia Valero, sisters, Zoila Contreras of Weslaco and Gloria Anaya (Tomas) of Hidalgo, sisters in law, Odilia Diaz, Emma V. Villarreal, Aida Valero all of Weslaco, Gloria Sanchez of Mercedes, brothers in law, Saul Valero of San Antonio, Ezequiel Valero, Armando Valero, and Hector Valero all of Weslaco, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1st from 11 am to 9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10am-1:30 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
