WESLACO - Jane Elizabeth "Betty" Ward Turpin, 102, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at John Knox Village in Weslaco.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lester Turpin. She is survived by her two children, Richard Kraner Turpin (Elizabeth) of Pass Christian, MS, and Marianne Turpin Deterly (Robert) of Tryon, NC, and her grandchild, Jonathan S. Turpin (Michelle) of Summit, MS.
Betty and Dick moved to the valley in 1974, after retirement. They greatly enjoyed life at John Knox Village, where Betty helped in the library, volunteered at St Pious X Catholic Church, and was an avid bridge player. Her favorite volunteer work was collecting and making clothes for dolls for children at Christmas. At her 101st birthday party, she told her daughter that she needed a job because she wasn't staying busy enough. A devoted Catholic, she never ceased praying for others. She will be greatly missed.
