Alice Jean Mueller
March 31, 1927 - August 3, 2018

Alice Jean Mueller, 91, of St. Charles died Friday, August 3rd at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. Alice Jean was born March 31, 1927 at St. Charles to Edwin and Florence (Ferguson) Hammer. She was raised on the family horse farm south of St. Charles and attended country school before graduating from St. Charles High School in 1945. She then attended Hattie Boyd Normal Training and later Winona State Teachers College. Alice taught country school at Utica and Eyota, as well as subbing in Elba. Alice Jean and Alvin Mueller were married June 14, 1951 at St. Anthony Catholic Church Rectory in Altura. They farmed north of St. Charles for many years, later moving in to St. Charles. She later worked for North Star Foods in St. Charles for a short time and for St. Mary Mary's Hospital - Central Services for many years. Alice was a kind and loving mother. She enjoyed gardening and canning, but was not known for her cooking skills. Alvin died in 2007. She entered St. Charles Assisted Living in 2009 and Chosen Valley Care Center in 2016.
Survivors include her five children: Jane Gervais of Rochester, John Mueller (Cindy Nelsen) of St. Charles, Dorothy (Steve) Sinn of St. Charles, Tom (Kristen) Mueller of Utica and Beth Mueller of Rochester, eight grandchildren: Brent (Lacey) Sinn, Sarah (Lance) Boyum, Keith (Magda) Mueller, Megan (Mike) Zeches, Sam (Dan) Wong, Katie Mueller (Andy Mensink), Kirsten (Matt) Kieffer and Dane Mueller (Addi Tapp), two step grandchildren, Colton and Austin Sinning, nine great-grandchildren: Carter and Elise Sinn, Caden, Zaylee & Hudson Boyum, Cash and Jett Mueller, Lincoln, Jade & Kylee Zeches, Sullivan Wong and two more on the way. She is also survived by Linda Mueller. Alice Jean was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 2007, a son-in-law Jerry Gervais, two brothers and a sister.
A Funeral Mass for Alice Jean will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Tim Biren officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery at Elba. Friends may call at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday. "Alice was such a sweet lady. Alvin took care of the track at the races, I also helped Cindy and Mike also, so we spent time with Alvin and Alice. I even went with Alvin and Alice to Redwing to a wedding of one the Shuberts. They were my good friends. Thoughts and prayers to Alice's family and friends."
