Margaret Kathryn Melver was born in Seattle on December 8, 1915, along with her twin brother,
Roald. They were called "Sis" and "Bro" throughout their lives. Her parents were Norwegian

She attended Pacific Lutheran College and received a three-year teaching certificate in 1938. She

She taught school in Germany, among other places. She met Navy pilot Bill Dakan, and they
married in 1954. They lived in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano, California and Sis taught
school there for over 30 years. Bill died in 1985. In 1991 Sis moved to Edmonds, WA to live
near her sister Alvhild, and they enjoyed many times of travel together. Margaret died on August
9, 2018. Her last words were "Every day is a new beginning."
