In loving memory of

Barbara R. Loeb
January 14, 1936 - August 19, 2018

Barbara (nee Rodgers) Loeb, of Wyndmoor, died peacefully on August 19th, 2018 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her husband, David S. Loeb, Jr.

She was born in Philadelphia on January 14th, 1936 and raised in Chestnut Hill, PA. Barbara was the daughter of the late John Leslie Rodgers, Jr. and Barbara Lewis Brown.

She was a 1955 graduate of Cecilian Academy in Chestnut Hill and a 1957 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Nursing where she won the distinguished Dr. Catherine Macfarlane Award for Outstanding Nursing. After Nursing in Center City, PA., she was hired at The Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential directed by Glenn Doman. It was here that she met and eventually married her patient, David S. Loeb, Jr., who sustained a broken neck and subsequent paralysis in a diving accident in 1952. They married in 1958 and together they raised three children, Susan, David and Judith. Barbara never stopped being a Nurse. Her skill, tenancy and determination allowed David to live twice the expected lifespan of a quadriplegic. Together they traveled extensively, spent early summers at Long Port, NJ., entertained and regularly attended The Philadelphia Orchestra concerts. The richness of their lives was a direct result of her dedication to the health and well-being of her husband and children.

Her calling toward caring for others led her to volunteer for Wheels Medical Transportation in Philadelphia. This became her passion that lasted for over 30 years, taking patients from their homes to the hospital and back. It was here that she used a lot of her nursing skills to bring care and comfort to others. She was recognized by the press and honored for her years of outstanding service. David always supported Barbara in her volunteer work. It was important to both of them to give back to the community. David and Barbara Loeb were a dynamic duo! Their dedication to helping others resulted in many philanthropic endeavors throughout the city of Philadelphia. Barbara leaves behind a brother, John Leslie Rodgers III (Charlotte) and her children Susan (Thomas), David (Michele) and Judith (Theodore). She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th, 2018 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends may call from 9:45-11AM at St. Alphonsus Church, 1565 Temple Drive, Maple Glen, PA. Interment immediately following at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
