"With a sad heart but wonderful memories, I belatedly learned of Zip?s passing. His smile, friendship, athletic grace and determination are recalled as I remember our Fort Dodge years together in grade school, South Jr. High and High School. I remember many exciting nights watching him and the Dodgers play basketball, and the Messenger sports page picture of Zip and Ray Zehr in SJH basketball uniforms - the ?tall and short? of it. Rest In Peace, old friend. Tom Garton"

"I am Gary?s sister, Sue Green. My best memories are going to his baseball and basketball games! I think I embarrassed him with my screaming! He was not only my brother but my best friend. I miss him terribly."

"I was with Zip at Hospice last week. I gave him an enlarged picture of our 1958 team at Sioux Falls,SD when we won the Tri-State tournament. He really enjoyed seeing our team back then. Zip had the same positive attitude that he always had, even knowing that he didn't much time left. I will always remember his smile and his desire to give his 'all' in every sport he played. He was a great teammate on the Demons, the Dodger baseball and basketball teams of the 60's and his teammates will always remember Zip as "a great guy and a fierce competitor". We will miss you Zipper- God rest in peace friend. "

"Praying for God's grace and peace for Zip's family. Always enjoyed being around him in school and, of course, watching him succeed on the hardcourt and diamond. His FB posts showed his love and pride in his family and were a joy to see. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends."

"Zip was always one of my favorites . . . was a great baseball player (and Softball) along with being the first Good outside shooter in Basketball for FDCC (now Iowa Central) where he played with some other good players for the Panthers. I watched him from the time he played on Jerry Patterson's great Demons teams. May God rest his soul."
