"We were saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. We knew he had some pretty severe health issues over the last several years, but it was still a shocker. Bruce was always smiling and upbeat. His laugh will be with us forever. RIP brother!"

"Just happened to be looking at the 71 Byronian last week. We won the conference that year in baseball so I went to the team photo and there was Bruce with that typical big smile. It was a privilege to know him and he loved to compete. His mother always welcomed us at her house too. Condolences to Dan & Amy also. Dave Burbank"

Keith Northway wrote on Sep 12, 2018:

"Dan and Amy, I always looked up to your brother. Older yes, but he was always there guiding and mentoring in his own unique way. He laughed and grinned when he'd bury me on the football field and did that "Bubba" teasing on the basketball court. But all that ended when the game was on. He was an intense competitor and that was how he lead: by example. He never gave up, never quit and never complained. He wasn't a rah-rah sort of guy; he just performed. He pushed me to always do and be better. Bruce took a lot of us under his wing besides all he did for the both of you and your mom. He was a man with big shoulders indeed. He has a very special place in my heart and always will. In fact, I was telling one of the kids I work with a few days ago about the legend of Bruce Lybeck- The only guy I knew who didn't wear socks when he played basketball and knew how to rebound better than anyone I've ever seen or coached! God's peace- Keith Northway "

"It has been 30 years plus since I have last seen Bruce. I read his obit today in the Post Bulletin while drinking a few beers in my garage and it brought a few tears. I went all thru school with Bruce, K -12. I don't ever remember him saying a bad word about anyone. He was always smiling and having fun, he would kick his head back and have that belly laugh which would always light up the room. I always looked up to Bruce and it's been an honor to have him as a friend. RIP Bruce! Fred Diercks "
