Landon "Bird" Robert Roush, 13, of Baxter, took flight and flew home on Sunday, September 9, 2018. A precious life gone too soon, and we will all mourn his loss. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. A funeral will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Congregational Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa. Friends are invited to come dressed casually and wear bright colorful clothes in honor of Landon.
Landon was born on November 9, 2004 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kurt Roush and Amy (Illingworth) Revell. He attended school in Newton through 4th grade. He began 5th grade at Baxter had remained a student there. Bird was a member of the 80/35 BMX, was a Boy Scout, and was on the wrestling team. He was very active and loved to spend time with his family, being outdoors, climbing trees, riding bikes, exploring, fishing, hunting, getting muddy in the river, playing Rambo, changing his hair color, blankets and making forts with them, most especially he loved animals. The creepier crawling animals were his favorites, but he loved bugs, turtles, salamanders, and squirrels too.
Those left to mourn Bird's memory are his dad Kurt (Maggie Engle) Roush; mom Amy (Kerry Pirie) Revell; step-dad Jon Revell; sister Katelyn Roush; brother Austin Roush; grandparents Tom and Diana Illingworth, and Rob and Nancy Roush; nephew Jaxson Halterman; uncles Mike Illingworth, Craig (April) Roush, and Kyle Roush; great-grandparents Barb Hartgers, and Bobby and Carolyn Roush; cousins Mariyah Roush, Chasity Leon, and Ashlie Leon; special friends Faith Engle, Paul Lammey, Mindy Johnson, and Kyler Johnson; many other friends and classmates.
Bird was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Louis Hartgers, Don Springer, Jimmy and JoAnn King, and Frank and Betty Illingworth.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Landon Roush memorial fund. New or gently used blanket donations may also be brought to Friday night's football game, or the church for his visitation or service. All blanket donations will be donated to various homeless shelters in Landon's name this fall.
