"Wally was a good friend of the highest caliber. He was quick with a smile, a great storyteller, and always happy to see you. We played Jeopardy, shake-a-day, solved more world problems over PBRs than I can count, and managed to make it to each other's favorite places together. We exchanged gardening and fishing tips. He shared old school desserts and unique garden treats. He would get our football numbers from the VFW each year and last year we won so often together, he said they were making up names to call us. He won on his last numbers on Sunday as well, both typical and appropriate. He was proud of his military service and loved this country. He lived life with an even keel, taking both success and setbacks in stride. And that is how I will remember my friend, with a big laugh that filled room, surrounded by people of all ages hanging on his words, true to himself and others, living the same way he went up the mountain as the way he came down, with grace. Top Shelf! I will miss you and I will remember you my friend and brother-in-arms. Thank you. We are not afraid."

"Wally you were one of a kind, and that picture of you with the PBR in hand will remain up at Darby's for as long as I own the place. You will be deeply missed by myself, Mark, and all of the staff here that were lucky enough to have called you a friend. RIP my friend, and thoughts and prayers are with your entire family."
