Richard Ray O'Neill
January 30, 1963 - September 29, 2018

Richard Ray "Rich" O'Neill, 55, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his home. He was born January 30, 1963 in Burlington to James A. and Donna Lee Underwood O'Neill. April 17, 1999 he married Melanie A. Detrick in Mt. Pleasant.
Along with farming, Rich was a welder at NCI in Mt. Pleasant and drove a truck for Eichelberger Farms of Wayland and Quality Seed of St. Paul. He was a 1982 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School; attended Indians Hills Community College and Southeastern Community College; was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and Iowa Cattleman's Association. He loved his cows, farming and tinkering; doing for others; traveling to Colorado; white water rafting and hiking; loved the West and the mountains. Rich was quite the trickster and loved haunted houses.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother and stepfather, Donna O'Neill (Doyle) Dunn of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Lenni (Kurtis) Broeg of Parnell, Iowa and Jodi (Bill) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant; aunts Darlene Henessee, Tootie (Ronnie) Eckhardt and Liz Underwood; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
The funeral service for Rich O'Neill will be 10:00 Saturday at Elliott Chapel. According to his wishes his body will be cremated following the services and inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will begin at noon Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5 - 7 PM. A memorial has been established for FFA Chapter, Mt. Pleasant.
