In loving memory of

John G. Hart
September 14, 1932 - October 4, 2018

John G. (Bud) Hart, 86, of Burlington died October 4, 2018 following complications of heart surgery. Bud was born September 14, 1932 in Hannibal, Missouri to Melvin (Bud) and Emily Hart. He lived most of his life in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School and attending community college there. Bud served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Burlington following his military service and worked with his father in construction. He later joined Dal and Derby Thompson at Atlas Warehouse. They began Pak-A-Way Container Service, which Bud later owned and managed until he sold the company and retired from being "Mr. Dumpy" in 1997.
Bud married Alice Myatt in 1952 and they had three children together. They later divorced. In 1974 he married Mary Roberts and they shared 44 years together. After retirement, Bud and Mary enjoyed traveling the world together, often escaping Iowa winters with extended visits to Arizona, Florida and Mexico.
Bud loved golf, playing regularly with his golfing buddies and occasionally with family at Spirit Hollow and other courses. He was especially proud of the times he could "shoot his age." He was also an active volunteer for the Kings Daughters Home, Downtown Partners and many civic projects during his 50+ years as a Burlington Kiwanis Club member. He lived a full and active life up to his passing and always encouraged others to enjoy life to the fullest.
Bud is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his three children: Lorna (Jeff) Naifeh, Brad (Jade) Hart, Jon (Peggy) Hart, seven grandchildren (Zach, Ian and Noah Naifeh; Alison Wetmore and William Hart; and Courtney Gustafson and Cole Hart) and thirteen great grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a kind and generous husband, father and grandfather--with an infectious smile.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Burlington Kiwanis Club or West Hill United Methodist Church in Bud's honor.
