In loving memory of

La Rue Sutherlin
March 24, 1965 - October 1, 2018

La Rue Sutherlin was born on March 24, 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri to La Rue Sutherlin and Natalie Harvey.

La Rue attended Daniel Boone Elementary School and Mercy High School in Missouri. He also attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, Marketing degree in 1988.

La Rue was employed with Liberty Mutual for thirty years as a Regional Medical Director and not only was a great manager, but a man of integrity, a natural leader who lead by example and a mentor to many.

La Rue had a passion for cars, grilling, and having the best yard in the neighborhood.

La Rue was a true hero, not measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.

La Rue was a man of patience and perseverance, a loving husband, a wonderful son, a devoted father, a superhero Grandpapi, and a loyal friend to many. He loved spending time with his family and friends and would go above and beyond to lend a helping hand.

La Rue's belief and faith in Christ was displayed in his actions and interactions with all he came in contact with.

La Rue was an autodidact, inquisitive man..."our pristine researcher". He always knew what to say and had a desire to help others. Even in his sickness, La Rue was a man who selflessly cared about others.

We could go on and on about how remarkable La Rue was but we know that if you knew La Rue, then you know he was truly a phenomenal man!

La Rue will be greatly missed, but always remembered and loved dearly in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Talena Sutherlin; daughter, Beverly Dillard; son, Taj Woods-Sutherlin (Resha); step-daughter, Talisha Parker (Issa); step-son, Kelvin Keene Jr; parents, La Rue Sutherlin (Doris) and Natalie Harvey (James); father-in-law, Lloyd Burnett (Vickie); brothers, Craig Sutherlin (Kelle) and John Sutherlin (Karima); brother-in law, Damon Burnett; grandchildren, Taylor Keys, Samaya Woods-Sutherlin, Isla Parker and Zara Parker; including a host of nephews, nieces, other family members and friends.

"I really don't know where to start. La Rue was truly one of a kind. His qualities and attributes are too numerous list. His composure (at all times), calmness, intelligence, strength and love for family made him the ultimate friend and mentor. His greatest qualities, perhaps, were his patience and humility. Whenever I was in his presence there was just a feeling that everything was good. He as the ultimate planner and organizer when it came to events. On top of that he had an almost immortal ability to make every single person in the room feel secure, welcome, and important. I'm sure everyone who reads this can echo these sentiments. I'm going to miss him more than words can express. My sincere hope and prayer, is that enough of him rubbed off on me so that I can become the type of husband, father, co-worker, friend, and mentor that he was. Talena and Family, I pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding to descend on all of you. God bless."

"To Talena and the entire Sutherlin Family, I don't even know where to begin. Quite frankly, there isn't enough space here for me say what I need to say. It goes without saying that LaRue was a remarkable man and a good Brotha, but he was more than that. He was like a BROTHER to me and that's why I'm feeling so much pain right now. I pray that you and your family will find peace soon in knowing that he's definitely in a better place now. As Deitrick Haddon says in one of his songs, the Lord is telling LaRue "well done, you can come on in". Love you & will miss you dearly, your boy Snil. Q-Squad forever! "

"Dear Sutherlin Family. My heart & prayers goes out to you. La Rue was someone I truly respected as a leader. He cared about people as evidenced by sending me a condolence card when my own husband passed away. I will never forget that he took to the time to reach out to me during a very difficult time in my life. The fact that he was no longer the regional director over the office where I work, showed that he truly cared. He will always be remembered. "
